A Case of the Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome




Abstract
superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a symptom resultsing from compression of third portion of duodenum by the superior mesenteric artery or one of its branches where this vessel crosses over the duodenum as it descends from the aorta.
Recently we have experienced 1 case of SMA syndrome and herein report the case. A highly emaciated 24 year old female with the complaint of freqeunt postprandial bilious vomiting of 1 year duration was admitted to our department of Kangdong
sacred
heart
hospital, Hallym university.
U. G. J series and ultrasonography showed the compression and partial obstruction of the third portion of duodenum by SMA.
We treated the patient conservatively total parenteral nutrition and positional change, but the patient's symptom was not improved. the side-to-side duodenojejunostomy was performed I month after the medical treatment, then her condition became
improved
postoperatively.
